Oceania is a swath of islands in the South Indian Ocean and Pacific that comprises some of the most exotic and sought after destinations on the planet. Anchored by Australia - the world's only continent consisting of only one country - and New Zealand, Oceania also consists of the Pacific Islands of Polynesia and Micronesia. Aside from Australia, the region consists of more than 300,000 square miles of land across thousands of islands (though much of that is in New Zealand and New Guinea).
These islands are often grouped into three categories. Melanesia consists of New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, and Fiji. Micronesia includes the Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, Guam, Mariana Islands, and the Marshall Islands. And the largest swath of the three, Polynesia, consists of New Zealand, the Cook Islands, French Polynesia, Tonga, Samoa, Tuvalu, and Hawaii. Throughout the Pacific Islands, the climate is generally tropical, until you go farther south, where New Zealand and its surrounding islands are more temperate close to Antarctica.
Located at or below the equator and among some of the most pristine waters in the Pacific Ocean, the islands of Oceania remain some of the most beloved destinations among frequent travelers, honeymooners and adventurers alike. From the soaring peak of Bora Bora in French Polynesia, to the iconic mountainsides of New Zealand, and crystal clear waters on the beaches of Fiji, there are dozens of opportunities to explore nature's wonder in Oceania.
