You are going on a trip next week. You have been excited about it for months and you can’t wait to finally board that plane and leave. The problem is you do not have a passport yet. What are you going to do? Does this scenario seem familiar? If you want to avoid something like this then let me give you a few tips on how to prevent passport problems.
Check if you need a passport. Each country has different travel requirements. Most countries now require a passport but there are also a few that don’t. So if you are planning to go on a trip you can check out what the requirements are just to be sure.
Fill up the form with correct and complete information. Haste makes waste. There are people who fill out their forms too hastily that they end up skipping some things or committing careless mistakes. Take care to double check your form to be sure that it is filled up correctly and completely. Careless mistakes like misspelling your name may end up causing your problems in the future.
Apply in advance. Do not wait until the eleventh hour to get a passport. Even if you are not going on a trip a passport is something that may come in handy. Also the process of renewing your passport may be time consuming. So apply well in advance just to be sure.
Prepare the necessary documents. You will need to prepare a few documents when applying for a passport. What is most frequently required is your driver’s license and birth certificate. For renewals, bring your old passport with you. Prepare a 2×2 picture in full color with white background. It must be a recent picture – not older than 6 months.
Sign all the necessary documents. A lot of people forget to affix their signatures on the necessary documents. After filling up the application form, go back and review everything to be sure that you didn’t miss anything. You can even ask a friend to recheck your form for you just to be sure. He or she might spot something that you missed.
Check out the expiration date. Note down the expiration date of your passport so that you will be able to schedule your renewal well in advance. Most people forget to check the expiration date of their passports so that when they need their passports they find that it has already expired.
