Without a doubt, visiting locations where famous movies were shot is a great thrill. To walk the steps of some of your favorite actors and reliving some of the scenes gives you an enormous thrill. If this sounds right up your alley, keep reading to find 4 famous film locations in the UK.
Having said that, we usually think that our favorite scenes were shot somewhere in a studio, closed from the spectators and blocked from anyone to visit the original location of the set. Nothing is further from the truth. There are many great places in UK alone, which played a major part in some of the most famous movies.
1. Glenfinnan Viaduct – Harry Potter

One of the most memorable scenes from the very first Harry Potter movies is the one in which the Hogwarths Express crosses a viaduct at night. It is one of the most picturesque scenes in the movie. What’s even better, the viaduct really exists and you can view it in person.
It is called the Glenfinnan Viaduct and it’s located in Lachaber in Highland Scotland. The viaduct has been featured in three Harry Potter movies to picture the Hoghwarts Express crossing it on its way to the school of magic. Every time the students travel between home and the school, they take the fictional Hogwarts Express on this very real bridge!
This famous Viaduct, which also appears on some the Scottish banknotes, was built at the start of 20th century and features an impressive construction on 21 arches, each spanning 15 meters. The whole viaduct is 30m high.
2. Notting Hill – Notting Hill and other movies

Another among famous film locations in the UK is Notting Hill; in fact, it’s one of the most shot locations in the history of film. Apart from a movie named after this London district, the area has served as a background to other films, such as: “Performance” starring the famous Mick Jagger or “The Knack…And How to Get It”. More recently, the homes can be seen in footage from Paddington, though it is said they live in Windsor Gardens.
Notting Hill is located close to the north western corner of the Kensington Gardens, in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It is a modern district with many historic connections with art and alternative lifestyle worlds, today mostly known as a fashionable high end shopping and leisure spot.
3. Bermondsey Wall West – A Fish Called Wanda
I think there is no person in the world who doesn’t remember the famous scene in which John Cleese, with his pants off, tries to woo Jamie Lee Curtis with his skills in speaking Russian. It’s a classic scene from A Fish Called Wanda.
The scene was shot in a flat in London on New Concordia Wharf in Bermondsey Wall West, a very upper class part of London. Unfortunately the apartment itself is privately owned and you can’t view it, however you can walk around the area and see the setting for the famous scene.
And, if you fancy to live there, you can easily get yourself an apartment in the complex for a mere 2 million British pounds!
4. 66 Lodovico Street – Hellraiser
The legendary 66 Lodovico Street, a location of the famous house from the first of the horror franchises, Hellraises, to which Claire Higgings was hauling innocent victims to regenerate Sean Chapman from the cenobites world. The house still stands and is located on 187 Dollis Hill Lane in London. Just like with A Fish Called Wanda, you can’t visit the house itself but you can arrive at the area to see the setting for the famous movie.
There are many other famous film locations in the UK, but these are some of our favorites. Do you have others you’d like to add? If so, drop us a comment below!
