The Canadian based Cirque du Soleil is one of the signature attractions of Las Vegas. With seven permanent shows in Vegas, it can be a bit difficult to decide which one to see. Now, obviously it would be a blast to see all of them, but that would require some amazing financial acrobatics, wouldn’t it? Here’s an overview of the top Las Vegas shows that will help you decide which is best for you.
1. Mystère – Treasure Island
Mystère was the first permanent Cirque du Soleil show on the strip, premiering in 1993. This show features assigned seating, but you’ll probably want to get there early for the fun pre-shows. The show combines visual aesthetics, amazing acrobatics and LOTS of audience participation, so be prepared!
2. O – Bellagio
This show is water themed, so if you like synchronized swimming, you’re in for a treat. O includes more special effects and surrounding imagery, and balances the water element with a fire dance.
3. Zumanity – New York-New York
Zumanity is the first “adult themed” Cirque du Soleil show, so this is a great option for a night out with your significant other. It is a teensy bit lighter on the acrobatics (if you want to see more of the traditional acrobatics, try Mystère) but makes up for it with funny skits, erotic visuals, and audience participation.
4. Kà – MGM Grand
This is by far the most expensive show to create, and the most expensive show on the strip. The theater alone cost $135 million to build from scratch – all of it paid for by MGM. The stage does not have a permanent floor, and is quite possibly the most technologically advanced theater in the world. Unlike the other shows, Kà offers a story line that is a bit more clear and easy to follow.
5. Love – The Mirage
For any Beatles fan, this show is a must-see. Treat your senses to live, re-imagined Beatles hits and unique visual interpretations of the music.
6. Criss Angel: Believe – Luxor
If you’re a Criss Angel fan, this show is right up your alley. However, Cirque du Soleil fans are quite critical of the show’s lack of acrobatics. The show focuses more on illusions and magic tricks rather than the traditional Cirque elements.
7. Zarkana – Aria
This show started as a traveling show, and gained permanent residency at one of the newest hotels on the strip, the Aria. The show follows the story of a magician who has lost both his magic and the love of his life. The show features fantastic acrobatics and unique artistic performances with sand.
Any Cirque du Soleil show is sure to be a unique and memorable experience; no matter which show you see, you’ll most likely enjoy yourself. Just remember to have fun exploring all the different options.
