Best Beach Destinations for Bodybuilders

Beaches have been the home-away-from-home for bodybuilders for decades. The fresh air, sunshine and cool ocean breeze provide the perfect environment for exercise. While Venice Beach has been the go-to destination for fitness buffs for as long as people have been lifting weights, there are dozens of other great beaches in the country.

Weight lifting on the beachIf you’re looking for the perfect destination this season, pack up your free weights and sunscreen, and pack an adequate supply of meal replacement rations.  The local eats may be outstanding, but you’ll want to keep that perfectly toned body when you head for one of these five hot spots:

1. Saint Pete Beach – Florida
St. Pete Beach is like something out of a travel brochure. With its pristine white, sandy beach, and bountiful amounts of sunshine, the beach is often ranked number one among travelers nationwide. The beach is located on Florida’s west coast, along the shores of the Gulf of Mexico. Thanks to its location, there are plenty of opportunities to see dolphins, pelicans and other wildlife in their natural habitat. There may be nothing better than finishing your workout, enjoying some steamed seafood, and being able to sit back and watch dolphins frolic in the surf.

2. Myrtle Beach – South Carolina

If you travel to Myrtle Beach, strap on your tennis shoes early and head to the water’s edge to watch the sunrise; there is no sight like it on earth. The beach virtually screams early-morning workout with its gorgeous views of the Atlantic Ocean, smooth sands and tranquil waters. Whether you go for a jog or spend your time lifting weights, with a breakfast meal replacement smoothie, Myrtle Beach is the perfect bodybuilder’s paradise.

3. Virginia Beach – Virginia
Virginia Beach is a favorite among families due to its abundance of activities. Visitors can kayak, hike, ride amusement rides, eat at any number of healthy restaurants or grab a drink, and that’s in addition to being able to enjoy the ocean. If you want to exercise in peace, consider traveling during the off-season, when kids are in school and moms and dads are back at work.

4. Honolulu – Hawaii
There is no beach in Honolulu that isn’t absolutely gorgeous, making the entire city a fabulous beach town. Can you imagine anything better than lifting weights while looking out onto the sparkling ocean waters? When you’ve had enough of weights and want to change up your routine, head for one of the many surf shops and hire an instructor to take you out onto the water. Surfing is a great way to exercise your core muscles, not to mention an exhilarating way to enjoy the ocean.

5. Fort Lauderdale – Florida
Once known only as the destination of choice for college students on break, Fort Lauderdale has made a sincere effort to make itself more appealing to adults and families. You’ll find boutiques, quaint shops, and of course, fabulous cafes lining the beaches of the beautiful city. The year-round sunshine and well-kept beaches make Fort Lauderdale the perfect place to work on your physique.

If you’re looking for a wonderful travel destination this year, you can’t go wrong with any of the beaches and cities listed above. Remember that a vacation from your work routine doesn’t have to mean a vacation from bodybuilding. Any of these beautiful destinations will not only provide you with a perfect venue for weight-lifting and staying in shape, but they’ll ensure you a delicious and fantastic time.
