Katja Presnal is the brains behind the lifestyle blog Skimbaco, a curiously titled site which combines a colloquial Finnish term for skiing with the initials for popular American ski state, Colorado. The Swedish-based entrepreneur uses the photo-blogging site as an integral part of her business. She even released a book about using Instagram to plan your travels! Followers are treated to images snapped around Katja’s Swedish home and her frequent trips abroad.

Onderkoca Shares Colors of Turkey

The turquoise waters, fiery orange sunsets, and charming white rooftops of Onderkoca’s Antalya home are showcased on his Instagram page. Onderkoca is well traveled, but his affection for the Turkish town he calls his “paradise” shines through. Most of his photos celebrate the beauty of the Mediterranean coastal resort town, yet scrolling through them never feels stale. Onderkoca has an uncanny knack for showing us this beautiful region in southwest Turkey from new perspectives.

Brad Tully Snaps African Animals

Brad Tully takes us on a virtual safari through his Instagram account. It’s all about Africa’s unique wildlife, with snaps of zebras grazing in Tanzania, giraffe families bonding in Botswana, and leopards stalking their prey in South Africa. Don’t be surprised if browsing through these up close and personal snaps inspires you to book your own African getaway!

Bipolaire61 Celebrates Life in the Snow

For most of us, looking at Bipolaire61’s Instagram account is the closest we’ll ever get to exploring Antarctica or the Arctic Circle. His account showcases snaps from his sailing adventures around the world, but the images from these remote corners are its biggest drawcards. There are glaciers, seals, and plenty of penguins to delight armchair travelers.

Drew Kelly Captures Vibrant North Korea

North Korea doesn’t have the best global reputation, so it’s refreshing to see an Instagram account which shows us a different side of this much maligned nation. Drew Kelly is an English teacher based in the North Korean township of Pyongyang. His colorful images of the area are often paired with poignant literary quotes.

Dalene and Pete Heck’s Take Hecktic Travels

The name of their account might be pretty cheesy, but it’s easy to overlook that when you’re admiring this nomadic couple’s travel snaps. Remarkably each Hecktic Travels photo was captured with a GalaxySIII smart phone. Who says you need fancy equipment to take high-quality travel photos? Recent images from Montreal really capture the spirit of the Canadian city.

Route 66 Tours Explore America by Road

Route 66 Tours didn’t need cameras either to create the striking photos on its Instagram page. The shots of America’s lonely deserts and rocky landscapes were captured on iPhones and iPads. The account is the work of an Australian tour company that’s clearly passionate about the ideal of the great American Road Trip. You can guarantee it would know a lot about auto insurance by state!

Many of us can’t afford our dream getaways, but following these Instagram accounts helps us all experience the wonders of the world without leaving our bedrooms.
